Orego-Stim for Swine

Orego-Stim, a consistent high quality source of 100% natural Oregano Essential Oil developed to support optimum gut integrity and performance.

Maintaining a healthy gut throughout all stages of development can help support lifetime health and performance in both the sow and her piglets.

Quality Guaranteed

The Story of a Single Drop

This is the story of a single drop. Anpario takes great pride in the decades of research, manufacturing precision and strict quality processes that lead to the superior performance of the Orego-Stim product range. Sustainably delivering value, performance and higher profitability for producers worldwide.

From Process to Product

The natural Oregano Essential Oil (OEO) in Orego-Stim is extracted from Anpario’s exclusive oregano strain, cultivated organically in central Europe. From point of harvest through the unique extraction method and onward production processes, we protect the active properties in the natural oil to ensure a high-quality product every time.

Orego-Stim High Quality from Process to Product

Orego-Stim is unique as only the natural whole oil is used.

Orego-stim contains naturally occurring compounds which work in synergy to offer several well-documented properties and functions of OEO.

Consistency in every batch

Oregano Essential Oil used to produce Orego-Stim consists of 100+ naturally occurring active compounds, frequent monitoring ensures consistent quality batch after batch, which is vital to ensure product performance.

Sow Gut Health

Ensuring optimal sow gut health is fundamental in achieving genetic potential in both the sow and her progeny. Driving piglet health through maternal nutrition can be a cost-effective way to support lifetime performance, boost unit success and maximise profitability.

Supporting a Healthy Gut

Sows fed Orego-Stim at weaning demonstrate a relative increase in abundance of Lactobacillaceae. This includes lactic acid producing bacteria which are helpful in maintaining a beneficial pH gradient through the gut and managing unwanted pathogenic bacteria. This beneficial shift in gut bacteria can support piglet health, through improved immunity transfer from sow to piglet.

Increased piglet throughput

Carthage Innovative Swine Solutions (CISS, IL. USA).

This study demonstrated that the number of piglets weaned from sows fed diets supplemented with Orego-Stim has been shown to be increased by 11%. This improved throughput provided a margin over feed value of £59 per sow.

Body Condition Score

Successful management of sow body condition can help to reduce sow mortality and lameness, helping to improve the reproductive performance of your herd.

Sows fed Orego-Stim had:

  • More consistent feed intakes during lactation
  • Improved body condition score retention
  • Improved maintenance of condition both pre- and post-farrowing
  • Significantly increased BCS at weaning.

Piglet Gut Health

Driving piglet performance through improved maternal nutrition is a cost-effective way to maximise lifetime performance and health of growing piglets.

Early microbial colonisation in young pigs provides a window of opportunity to modulate the gut microbiome and achieve long–term benefits on immune development, resistance to disease and digestive efficiency.

Supporting a Healthy Gut

The suckling period is a critical time in a piglet’s life for the acquisition of a healthy gut microbiota, necessary for the development of digestive function, gut barrier protection and immune development. Analysis of the piglet microbiota at 2 and 4 weeks of age revealed a decrease in Enterobacteriaceae at weaning in litters supplemented with Orego-Stim compared with the control.

Enterobacteriaceae include Salmonella and E .coli and therefore, reducing levels may help to lower risk of scour at weaning.

Improved Performance

Piglets from sows receiving Orego-Stim had a significantly increased body weight and improved average daily gain at one week of age.

Post-weaning, piglets from Orego-Stim fed sows had improved performance which continued through to finishing, increasing body weight at finish by 3.4 kg compared to piglets from control fed sows.

Improved Piglet Liveability & Performance

Orego-Stim Supports Sow & Progeny in the Absence of Zinc Oxide

A study conducted with a large feed integrator on an Irish commercial pig farm has demonstrated that Orego-Stim supports sow lactation performance and substantially improves piglet weaning weights in comparison to piglets fed diets containing zinc oxide.

Piglet pre-weaning mortalities for starvation and scour (% of total mortalities per group).

Following Orego-Stim Supplementation of Sows and their Piglets:

  • Average weight gain from birth to weaning was increased by 490 g.
  • Piglets weighed 500 g more than those fed diets containing zinc oxide.
  • Piglets had lower incidence of mortality pre-weaning due to starvation or scour.
  • Medication usage was not affected by the removal of zinc oxide and replacement with Orego-Stim.

A Cost Effective Alternative to Zinc Oxide

Orego-Stim Improves Daily Gain and Reduces Mortality in Piglets Post Weaning

Piglets fed diets containing Orego-Stim:

  • Performed as well as, if not numerically better, than piglets fed diets containing both benzoic acid and zinc oxide.
  • Had a lower average mortality % at both 21 & 49 days post weaning.

Equates to £0.18 per kg piglet gain based on European costing. Currency exchange was correct at the time of publication.

Supporting Ileitis

Pig farmers are being encouraged to take preventative steps to control the spread of ileitis within their herds, and as they strive towards reducing antibiotic use in their industry, natural solutions are becoming the preferred choice for many. The importance of good gut health is being discussed by many producers, as optimising gut health ultimately optimises pig performance.

Supporting Pigs During Ileitis Challenge

Orego-Stim Supports Performance and Gut Health in Pigs Challenged with Ileitisning

(SSUI, USA)

A recent trial was undertaken in the US to determine the efficacy of Orego-Stim alongside vaccination in a herd challenged with ileitis.

Vaccinated pigs supplemented with Orego-Stim at 1 kg/tonne:

  • Were three times more likely to have no lesions.
  • Were twice as likely to have normal faecal scores.
  • Benefitted from an increased average daily gain of 5.5% compared to vaccination alone.

The natural OEO based feed additive provides a sustainable, low inclusion, cost effective tool to support commonly implemented vaccination programmes and optimise pig performance during ileitis challenge, helping to maintain profitability for global pig producers.

AMR – Antibiotic Replacement

Orego-Stim supports piglet health and performance in the absence of antibiotics

Orego-Stim is an effective tool in supporting producers in the fight against AMR, which is particularly important for colistin and enrofloxacin, as they are classed as Critically Important Antibiotics, the efficacy of which must be safeguarded. Orego-Stim can help to maintain optimum piglet health and performance in the absence of antibiotics.

In a study conducted from weaning for 21 days, Orego-Stim fed piglets had:

  • 0% mortality, as did piglets fed the diet supplemented with the antibiotic Baytril. This was 11.1% lower than control piglets and 5.6% lower than the colistin supplemented group.
  • Reduced positive E. coli counts in faecal samples.
  • Reduced diarrhoea scores post-weaning compared to the control and colistin treated groups, whilst matching the performance of Baytril.
  • A significantly increased average daily gain.
