SUMMARY
  • EU (EFSA) maximum permitted levels for aflatoxin in non-dairy complete feed is 20 µg/kg, below this level aflatoxin presence may still negatively impact health and reduce animal performance.
  • Anpario’s Anpro range significantly reduces aflatoxin (AfB1) and secondary metabolite (AfM1) concentration in the liver tissue of broilers.
  • Anpro is an effective toxin binder against high levels of aflatoxin in feed.

 

BACKGROUND
  • Mycotoxins are produced by moulds and may still be present in processed feed and bedding.
  • Mycotoxins are stable compounds which are resistant to heat and chemical treatments.
  • Mycotoxicosis can cause reduced feed intake and retarded growth in poultry which can lead to high economic losses.

 

TRIAL DESIGN

An independent in vivo trial was conducted by Alimetrics (Finland) to understand the potential of Anpro in binding aflatoxin (AfB1 and AfM1) in broilers. 300 male broilers (Ross 308) were allocated to 30 pens, 10 birds per pen for a duration of 35 days. Two diet phases were fed; starter (crumb, 0 – 14 days) and grower (pellet, 15 – 35 days) with 2 treatments, all diets were offered ad libitum. T1 (control; basal diet), T2 (Anpro; 5 kg/t Anpro) starter diets were spiked with 5 µg/kg AfB1 and grower diets were spiked with 20 µg/kg AfB1. The diet contained no antibiotics but the coccidiostat, narasin, was included. At 35 days the liver samples were collected and aflatoxin levels (AfB1 and AfM1) were analysed.

RESULTS
  • Aflatoxin (AfB1) and its main metabolite (AfM1) were significantly reduced in the liver of broilers receiving Anpro in their feed.
  • Anpro showed a trend to reduce aflatoxin levels in the blood (data not shown for brevity).
  • Anpro fed in broiler diets, significantly reduced AfB1 transfer from feed, therefore reducing the aflatoxin risk.
